Operator of Casino Rama and Gateway Casinos Innisfil says it is following rules laid out by provincial Medical Officer of Health

Union wants casinos closed due to COVID-19 pandemic

The operator of Casino Rama and Gateway Casinos Innisfil said they are being hyper-vigilant in providing a safe and clean environment for customers and employees.

Gateway Casinos and Entertainment (GCE) said deep cleaning practices have increased to disinfect doors, handles, slot machines and other public areas, and the number of sanitization stations has been increased across its properties.

Unifor, which represents most employees at both casinos, wants the gaming houses closed due to the COVID-19 threat.

Local 1090 notes that Ontario’s Medical Officer of Health has asked that public gatherings of more than 250 people be suspended.

GCE said it is following that advice for concerts and conferences at its facilities, adding this does not impact its casinos, restaurants or lounges at this time.

The company said training and resources have been provided to employees and they are well versed on hygiene protocols.
