Orillia artist Craig Mainprize chosen to create mural for 2020 Ontario Winter Games

Mural will be unveiled at the Opening ceremonies on February 27th

An Orillia artist has the honour of creating a mural for the 2020 Ontario Winter Games.

The Games Organizing Committee put out a call to artists to create a mural that encapsulates the theme, “Inspired: The Road to Gold.”

Nine artists from across the province submitted art pieces, with the honour being rewarded to Orillia artist Craig Mainprize.

Jacqueline Soczka, Orillia’s City’s Manager of Culture and member of the Games Organizing Committee says “Craig’s unique style, bold colours and simplistic designs captured the imagination of the panel.”

Mainprize will now create a powerful image that showcases the inspiration behind the athletes.

The Ontario Winter games are once again taking place in The City of Orillia and will feature 27 sports over four days between February 27th to March 1, 2020.

The mural will be unveiled on the big screen at the Opening Ceremony on February 27th and find a permanent home inside the new Orillia Recreation Centre.
