Orillia man arrested following overnight standoff

Standoff began with follow up to previous dispute

An Orillia man has been taken into custody after an overnight standoff.

Provincial police say a 40-year-old man went to a West Ridge-area home around 10 p.m. Thursday, to confront a man and woman living there regarding a previous dispute. Police say the couple was threatened with a weapon before the suspect fled.

The suspect was known to police, who went to his home a short distance away. The Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, and crisis negotiators were called in when police say the man refused to leave his home.

At around 7:30 Friday morning, the suspect was arrested without incident. He now faces charges including assault with a weapon, threatening, and possession of a dangerous weapon.
