Orillia OPP nab impaired driver in stolen vehicle

Driver fled from police but didn't get very far

A tip to Orillia OPP around 6:30 Sunday morning about someone entering vehicles and knocking on doors near Seabright. The caller said the person appeared to be drunk. Officers spotted a man who matched the description pull out of a driveway in a vehicle. A traffic stop was attempted but the driver fled at a high rate of speed, then lost control and entered a ditch.

As officers began an impaired driving investigation, they learned the vehicle had been stolen.

A 40-year-old Orillia man has been charged with several drunk driving offences, theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He was held for a bail hearing on Monday.
