Orillia Perch Festival marking 40 years despite provincial shutdown

Annual fishing event still a go, with virtual submissions being accepted this year

While many other events and occasions have suffered because of the latest spate of COVID restrictions, the Orillia Perch Festival is still a go. Not only that, this year marks the festival’s 40th anniversary.

Subway Kids Fishing Day

The organizers of the annual event have this year paired with Georgian College’s Computer Sciences Department and several social media groups to create a virtual version of the festival. Anglers still have to catch perch, but can now submit a picture of the fish they caught to be eligible to win.

Each picture submitted qualifies anglers for a daily draw, a weekly draw, and the Grand Prize draw. Only one submission per day, as in previous years. Pictures will be scanned and duplicate submissions will be disqualified.

The 2021 Orillia Perch Festival runs from April 17 to May 15, offering 29 days of fishing. Check the Orillia website for more information including a printable perch book with all prize information listed. Participants can also register online through that site at a cost of $25 per adult and $5 for kids.
