Oro-Medonte approves two-year budget with focus on 'infrastructure, preparedness and fiscal responsibility'

Oro-Medonte Council has unanimously approved the Township’s 2025-2026 multi-year budget, aiming to balance fiscal responsibility with service improvements and infrastructure renewal—while acknowledging the financial pressure many residents are facing. The approved budget includes a 4.07% property tax increase for 2025 and a 3.98% increase in 2026. For the average homeowner, that translates to roughly $40 more per $100,000 of assessed property value each year. The figures include levies from the County of Simcoe, School Boards, and the Township itself. This year’s budget discussions were shaped in part by the lingering financial impacts of the devastating ice storm earlier this year. Cleanup costs are estimated at $6.5 million, and while the Township hopes to recover some of those expenses, the event underscored the importance of long-term infrastructure funding and emergency preparedness. To help close a historical gap in infrastructure funding, Council has approved increased contributions to reserve funds. Surpluses from the past two years have also been directed toward capital reserves, reinforcing the Township’s ability to meet future needs without relying on unpredictable revenues. “Council and staff are aware and understanding of significant cost of living increases facing Oro-Medonte residents and business owners, and the current uncertainty within the economy,” said Mayor Randy Greenlaw. “With this in mind, we worked hard to deliver a multi-year budget that is well prepared, professionally deliberated, and fiscally responsible.” The budget aligns with the Township’s Strategic Plan and includes input gathered through public consultation. It also supports modernization efforts and service improvements, ensuring the Township can continue to meet evolving community needs. “We’re positioning Oro-Medonte now and into the future,” Greenlaw added. “Taking a balanced approach, the budget ensures the Township’s reserve funding is effectively managed and maintained.” More information and detailed budget documents are available on the Township’s website at 2025 Budget | Township of Oro-Medonte.
