Oro-Medonte wants to measure your internet speed as it looks for issues affecting residents’ connectivity

Township trying to beef up internet service

The Township of Oro-Medonte wants to tackle the issue of internet expansion throughout, but need to know what they’re up against.

The Township has struck an Internet Connectivity Task Force which is asking folks throughout Oro to participate in a survey, and your device will be along for the ride. The town says a recently-created online survey has an internet performance test built right into it, testing any home and business connection, voluntarily, proving info that could help with grant applications to help pay for better infrastructure down the road.

Oro-Medonte council recently identified the issue of internet expansion as a priority with both its corporate strategic plan and economic development strategy. “Considering the number of residents working from home and students needing access to resources for school due to COVID19, the importance of supporting local businesses, and ensuring Oro-Medonte residents are able to stay virtually connected with family and friends, there is an accelerated need for reliable internet service throughout the Township,” commented Oro-Medonte Mayor Harry Hughes.

Those wishing to learn more or participate in the survey itself should visit Oro-Medonte’s dedicated page on the matter. The survey should be completed by August 7 for feedback to be included in the final report.
