Oshawa basketball tournament linked to COVID outbreak
Thousands of people are being urged to get tested
As many as 7,000 people who attended a basketball tournament in Oshawa are being urged by the Durham Region Health Department to get tested for COVID-19 after more than 20 people who were at the event tested positive for the virus.
The Jane and Finch Classic basketball tournament was held from Aug. 3 to 8, at the Playground Global Facility.
Health officials say they are having trouble reaching all players and spectators because they were “from all over Ontario and other provinces.”
Cases from Durham, Peel, Toronto and Quebec have been identified.
Health authorities say it’s important people who attended the tournament get tested “immediately.”
