The first teaser for a new HBO series called Our Flag Means Death has dropped, and it looks like a delightfully funny spin on high seas piracy.
Inspired by the true adventures of Stede Bonnet, a pampered aristocrat has a midlife crisis and abandons his life of privilege to become a pirate in 1717. It does not go well.
Fans of Flight of the Concords will be happy to see Rhys Darby in the lead role who will be accompanied by a few "that guys" (you know their face, but not their name) like Nat Faxon and Ewen Bremner, along with some faces you'll know from SNL like Fred Armisen and Leslie Jones. Also joining the cast as the legendary private Blackbeard is none other than Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit (he also played Adolf Hitler in the latter).
HBO looks to have a fantastic slate of content for 2022 with news seasons of fan favourites like Barry, Westworld, and Euphoria on the way, along with new series like House of the Dragon, The Time Traveler's Wife, and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. If you love limited series they've got that covered too with new ones like The White House Plumbers, We Own This City, DMZ, and more.
The streaming service has also already kicked off the year on a good note with the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Reunion pulling in Potter fans from all over the world and the new superhero comedy Peacemaker getting stellar reviews.
It looks like you'll have plenty to watch if you're a Crave subscriber, but we think Our Flag Means Death looks hilarious and will be right at the top of our must-watch shows list.
