Person struck and killed by a train in Oro-Medonte

One person is dead after being struck by a freight train in Oro-Medonte.

Around 3 a.m. Tuesday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they were dispatched to Horseshoe Valley Road near Craighurst for a report of an individual walking near the train tracks.

First responders and rail officials arrived after they received reports a person had been struck by a train. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
