Photo radar could get the green light in Barrie

Cameras would be installed in community and school safety zones

Say cheese.

Photo radar could be coming to community safety and school zones in Barrie.

City council agreed on Monday to push the pedal on plans to approach Toronto’s joint processing centre with a request to take part in an automated enforcement program. The photo-radar program is available to all Ontario municipalities and is run by Toronto as part of a contract with Redflex Traffic Systems.

What Barrie would like to do is rotate two photo-radar cameras in each of the city’s 10 wards.

Staff will investigate the cost of the program and then council will decide whether to give the project the go ahead. Getting the cameras installed and operational could take a couple of years.
