Playgrounds, waterfront fitness equipment closed in Barrie to combat COVID-19

City of Barrie says measures will also promote social distancing

Effective immediately, the City of Barrie municipal playground equipment and waterfront fitness equipment will be closed to public access. Signs are being installed today in all parks with playgrounds and the fitness equipment along the waterfront trail.

The City says the decision was taken after consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to increase precautionary measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 and encourage social distancing.

Dog off leash parks remain open but people will see signs at both sites reminding them to use extra precaution during this time.

The City said the measures taken at the playgrounds are also because the equipment cannot be regularly sanitized.

Over the weekend, the City of Orillia closed playgrounds in municipal parks for the same reasons.
