Police allegedly seize loaded handgun after a pursuit in Muskoka

Chase began after a motorist was clocked speeding on Highway 11 in Bracebridge

A police pursuit in Muskoka that began late Friday night when an OPP officer allegedly clocked a vehicle travelling at 143 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on Highway 11 northbound in Bracebridge.

Police said the driver did not pull over, then left the highway and drove into town at a high rate of speed.

Police were able to box the motorist in, but he lurched his vehicle at the officer and kept driving.

Officers eventually caught up to the motorist in the driveway of a home on Fernwood Drive in Gravenhurst.

Police allege they seized a loaded handgun during a search of the vehicle.

A 31-year-old Brampton man faces numerous charges including possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, flight from police, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Police have not located the passenger.

They say there is no public safety concerns at this time.
