Police charge five following Saturday morning firearm search in north-end Barrie
Four adult males and one youth, all from Toronto, facing charges
Five people, including a youngster, are facing a slew of charges after a Saturday morning search for a handgun.
Barrie Police were called to a home on Melrose Ave. just before 8:30 a.m. with reports of a break and enter in progress. Police arrived to find an opened rear screen door, so they went inside. As soon as they did, police say five suspects immediately fled the home into surrounding backyards.
Following several foot chases and a canine track, all five suspects were taken into custody. The investigation later revealed one of the suspects tossed a handgun while fleeing from the law, and a call for the public’s help was put out. At around 3 p.m. Saturday, a Steel Street homeowner found the firearm and called in the police.
Four adult males and one young person, all from Toronto, face several drug- and property-related charges, while one of the five also faces charges in connection to the firearm.
