Police say Essa Township burglar was found sleeping in a vehicle that didn’t belong to him

A Burlington man has an appointment with a judge after a series of thefts from unlocked vehicles in Essa Township, followed by a snooze.

Nottawasaga OPP fielded several calls from residents of the area of 5th Sideroad around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, with reports of thefts from vehicles. Complainants told police wallets with ID and credit cards were taken, along with spare change, while one resident reported their bicycle stolen.

At just after 2 p.m. the same day, officers received a call about a man sleeping in a vehicle. Officers arrived, rousted the man, and, after a brief interaction, placed him under arrest.

The 43-year-old suspect now faces charges including possession of stolen property, drugs, and a prohibited weapon, along with failing to abide by a court order, and illegal use of a credit card.

The OPP adds the vehicle he was found sleeping in does not belong to him.
