Province Outlines Ps and Qs Of Recreational Pot

No limit on pot shops; no toking in your car or on a boat

You can buy it here and there
But cannot smoke it everywhere
Not in a car
Not in boat
But in your house
Go ‘head and toke

The provincial government has laid out its recreational pot plans.

It says it will not limit the number of shops that can sell it, but there will be strict vetting and regulations to be followed.

Municipalities have until January 22 to decide if they will allow retail sales in their neighbourhoods.

Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman says it will be up to the council elected next month to make that decision. He says not allowing it could be troublesome.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”That just makes sure that drug dealers keep selling it and it keeps getting sold on the black market. I think the whole point of legalization was to regulate the sale and distribution; keep it away from kids and keep the product safer so that there aren’t other things mixed into the product because it’s sold illegally.”[/perfectpullquote]

You’ll be able to light up anywhere you’re allowed to smoke tobacco – including your home if it’s allowed there (some landlords forbid tobacco smoking on their properties).

As is the case with alcohol lighting up on a boat or in your vehicle can result in a fine of between $1000 and $5000.

Legal online sales of recreational cannabis begin October 17; retail shop sales begin in April.
