Province ran just under 8,200 COVID-19 tests, far below daily goal of 16,000

Province says it can run 20,000 in a day

Just 8,170 tests were run in a day over the weekend, according to new data from Public Health Ontario.

The provincial health body says 3,883 tests were waiting to be run as well, despite health officials saying the Ontario has a goal of 16,000 tests a day. The province has previously said it has the capacity to run 20,000 tests in one day.

Meanwhile, another 404 cases of COVID-19 were added to the provincial caseload in Monday’s update from Public Health Ontario, for a total of 25,904 to date; of those, 19,698 people have recovered, an increase of 221 since yesterday’s update.

Another 29 lives were lost, for a total of 2,102.
