Questions Arise Over Hiring of Provincial Police Top Cop
NDP Calling for Integrity Commissioner Investigation
Some at Queen’s Park calling for an inquiry into the appointment of the OPP’s newest top cop.
The NDP today questioned the appointment of Ronald Taverner to the OPP Commissioner role, said to be a friend of the Ford family. NDP leader Andrea Horwath says she is getting in touch with the Integrity Commissioner, while it has been made known the job posting was modified after first being made public, to allow for someone of Taverner’s rank to apply.
Many people, including the former OPP commissioner, have raised serious concerns about Mr. Ford’s appointment of Mr. Taverner.

According to a statement from Ontario’s Community Safety Minister, “Superintendent Taverner was appointed by Cabinet, based on the unanimous recommendation of a selection committee comprised exclusively of members of the Ontario Public Service and supported by Odgers Berndtson, an executive search firm.”
