Ribbon-cutting today for Empower Simcoe (formerly Simcoe Community Services)

Rebranding "a necessity"

When people started calling about snow removal, garbage collection and long-term care homes the brain trust at Simcoe Community Services knew they needed to make a change.

“We knew there was a brand identity problem”

CEO Claudine Cousins says people were confusing her organization with the County of Simcoe.

Empower Simcoe, she says, is about people who want to live a self-fulfilling life, “If somebody comes to us through our housing program and they would like to find a new place to live, how do we, then, look at them and say we know you have other issues – mental health…it could be addictions, it could be anything – how do we put that aside for now and focus on housing first.”

Another example is the person with a disability who wants to learn how to sake. Empower Simcoe will help them find a way to make that happen.

The rebranding of Simcoe Community Services to Empower Simcoe becomes complete today with a ribbon cutting this afternoon (1:30 pm) at its office on Fraser Court in Barrie.
