Sainte-Marie among the Hurons has introduced a brand-new lineup of guided tours and immersive experiences running from April through October 2025. Whether you're a history buff, family explorer, or curious traveller, this year's offerings promise deeper engagement and unforgettable hands-on learning at one of Ontario’s most cherished historical destinations.

“Sainte-Marie among the Hurons is one of Ontario’s most unique homegrown cultural tourism experiences, offering visitors an immersive look into a fascinating time in Canadian history,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, praising Sainte-Marie’s commitment to historical education and local economic impact. 

“Now more than ever, Ontario residents should look to their own backyard for experiences, like Sainte-Marie, that support the local economy and celebrate our shared history.”

New for 2025: Pre-season April tours

For the first time ever, Sainte-Marie is offering exclusive pre-season guided tours in April, inviting guests to experience the site before it opens for the regular summer season. These small-group experiences are led by the site’s most seasoned interpretive staff and offer a multi-sensory journey into 17th-century life.

Dates: Now until April 26
Cost: $13 (tax included)
Times: Tuesday to Friday: 10:30 AM & 1 PM; Saturdays & Good Friday (April 18): 10:30 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM, 3 PM

Visitors will be immersed in the sights, sounds, and even tastes of the past — from the clang of the blacksmith’s hammer and the chants in the chapel, to fresh-baked cornbread in the cookhouse. Guests can also try traditional First Nations games and learn ancient fire-starting techniques using flint, birch bark, and steel.

“We’re excited to expand the opportunity for visitors to experience Sainte-Marie by taking this unique tour,” says Will Baird, General Manager of Huronia Historical Parks. “Anyone with an appreciation of history will enjoy the chance to immerse themselves in the past in a more intimate and engaging way before the summer season rush.”

Weekend guided tours (May–June, Sept–Oct)

Take a step back in time during weekend guided tours that run in spring and fall outside peak season. Perfect for those seeking a quieter, in-depth look at the historic mission site.

Dates: May 3 – June 22 and Sept 1 – Oct 5
Cost: $5 (plus regular admission)
Times: Saturdays & Sundays (plus Labour Day Monday) from 10:30 AM & 1 PM

Daily summer tours (July–August)

July and August bring the full Sainte-Marie experience, complete with historical demonstrations and costumed interpreters. Enhance your visit with a guided tour available daily in English and French.

Dates: June 28–August 31
Cost: $5 (plus regular admission)
English Times: Everyday at 10:30 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM
French Times: Every day at 12 PM

New this year: Hands-on Heritage – Farm Fridays

Running every Friday in July and August, Farm Fridays are designed for younger visitors and families, offering interactive opportunities to meet heritage breed animals, learn traditional gardening methods, and pitch in with farm chores.

Dates: July 4–August 29
Cost: $5 (plus regular admission)
Times: Fridays at 11:30 AM & 2:30 PM

What to Expect

All tours kick off with a newly refreshed introductory film, followed by guided access to reconstructed buildings, immersive exhibits, and three beautifully maintained courtyards. Visitors can also browse the gift shop for unique finds or enjoy a meal at Restaurant Sainte-Marie.

Most tours are ideal for ages 10 and up, while Farm Fridays are especially suited for younger children.

Even more adventure: Discovery Harbour opens May 3

Extend your historical exploration with a visit to Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene, opening May 3. Learn about British naval and military history, or embrace the paranormal with Ghost Tours launching daily in May and on Saturday nights during July and August.
