Barrie police say safety-related countermeasures at a downtown Barrie jewelry store helped prevent a robbery from taking police.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a robbery at a Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers on Dunlop Street West. When officers got to the scene, they learned that thanks to security measures including the use of smoke and a requirement that customers must buzz in to gain entry prevented the robbery from happening.
Investigators have determined that four or five suspects were seen exiting two vehicles in the area, dressed in dark clothing, and aggressively approached the store. After their attempt to enter the store was foiled, the suspects fled on foot back to the cars they arrived in and fled westbound on Dunlop Street West towards Highway 400.
Anyone who may have information involving this occurrence or anyone who may have observed any suspicious activity in the area of Dunlop Street West and Maple Avenue yesterday afternoon anytime between 1:30 p.m. – 2:23 p.m. is asked to please contact Barrie Police at 705-725-7025.
