Service Ontario Finally Enters 21’st Century

Top services like license plate renewals could be done online

As part of a plan to clawback a multibillion-dollar deficit, the Ontario Treasury Board announced they will move more services online. The government’s first goal is enhancing the top 10 services we all use at ServiceOntario.

Most used services will be online. Licence plate sticker purchases, driver’s licence renewals & health card renewal were among their top services.

That enhancement means you can go online instead of waiting in-line. However, we don’t know when this will all roll-out or exactly which services will be included online.

Speaking at the Economic Club of Canada Wednesday, Treasury Board President Peter Bethlenfalvy said the Province is faced with a projected $10.3-billion deficit this year.

We need to build a digital system that works for everyday Ontarians – a system that’s easy, intuitive and effective. It also happens to have the potential to save millions across government.

Bethlenfalvy was in downtown Toronto to unveil the “Smart Initiative” strategy that includes moving those services online as well as redesigning the way the government makes bulk purchases. They also plan to sell off office space and land. ServiceOntario has said licence plate sticker purchases, driver’s licence renewals and health card renewal were among their top services.
