Severn man drowns at MacLean Lake

A number of good Samaritans aided in search for overdue swimmer

A 71-year-old Severn man was the victim of drowning at MacLean Lake.

The Orillia OPP were contacted at about 11 a.m. on August 9 about an overdue swimmer. Officers arrived at the beach to find a number of good Samaritans who were searching for the man. Numerous kayaks, personal watercraft, and swimmers were participating in the search.

As the OPP Marine Unit arrived on the scene, the overdue swimmer was located by civilian searchers and was taken to shore.

County of Simcoe Paramedics tended to the man, but he was pronounced deceased on scene. Police have yet to identify the man publicly, as they continue to notify family members.
