Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reporting dozens of COVID-19 recoveries since yesterday

Outbreak declared at Collingwood Nursing Home

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit SMDHU) says twenty-eight people have recovered from COVID-19 in our region, even as the local health unit confirms another life lost.

Thus far, the SMDHU is reporting 258 recoveries to date, which represents just over 64 percent of all 401 confirmed cases the health unit has reported. The Health Unit added another death in connection to COVID-19, a woman in her 80’s at Owen Hill Retirement Home in Barrie. She represents the region’s 32nd loss.

This comes as the Health Unit confirms another long-term care centre outbreak, this at Collingwood Nursing Home. Outbreak declarations continue at Bradford Valley Care Community in Bradford, Owen Hill in Barrie, Bayview Retirement in Waubaushene, Whispering Pines Retirement in Barrie, and Muskoka Traditions in Huntsville.

While the health unit did add 14 more cases to its caseload since yesterday, it has also removed three; two cases were revealed to be false positives, and one was an undetermined case that resulted in a negative.
