SIU Says Penetanguishene Man’s Serious Injuries Were Self-Inflicted

Police Watchdog Claims Man Asked Police To Shoot Him

The Special Investigations Unit has ended a probe into a man’s injuries, saying the stab wounds he suffered were self-inflicted.

The OPP were called to a home in Penetanguishene in February, to find a severely injured 59-year-old man who later died in hospital. A 27-year-old man was found alive, lying on the floor of a bedroom, covered in blood and armed with a knife.

The SIU claims he had attacked made demands of police to shoot and kill him, and refused to drop the knife. A taser was used to subdue the man, after which he was taken to hospital for treatment of serious stab wounds.

The SIU says those wounds were the result of his own actions, and not those of the police.
