Skipper of boat that lost power on Kempenfelt bay facing booze and life jacket charges

Too much of one, not enough of the other

Seems like a local boater was ill-prepared for a trip out onto the water over the long weekend.

At around 9 p.m. Monday, South Simcoe Police got the call that a boat carrying seven people lost power at the mouth of Kempenfelt Bay off Big Bay Point in Innisfil. The craft was located by the police service’s Marine One, and was towed to safety.

However, police say the operator of the craft was issued a three-day licence suspension following an alert on a field screening device. Provincial offences notices were also issued over concerns of open alcohol, insufficient life jackets for all aboard, and not enough safety devices.
