The man once called the best soccer player not named Pelé died at the age of 60. Argentina’s presidential office announced the death of soccer legend Diego Maradona Wednesday.
The beloved Argentine was known for his amazing footballing skills but his legacy was somewhat clouded-over by substance abuse issues.
Argentina will hold three days of national mourning following his death. Maradona’s spokesperson said the cause of death was from a heart attack. Maradona had recently undergone brain surgery.
FIFA voted Maradona and Pelé of Brazil the sport’s two greatest players in 2000.
