Suspicious incident involving sound of baby crying being investigated by Barrie police

Two young females heard the sound while walking dog in area of Ardagh Bluffs

A strange incident is being investigated after two young females walking their dog in the area of Ardagh Bluffs heard what they believed was a recording of a baby crying.

As they left a wooden trail onto Cumming Drive around 5 p.m. on Sunday, a silver-coloured car being driven by an unknown male drove by the females. The driver waved, continued to travel along the road and there was no conversation or exchange of words between the females and the driver.

The incident was reported to police a few hours later and patrols of the area were conducted. The responding officer was unable to locate the vehicle and did not hear any crying sounds.

Police said they are aware of social media posts about this incident and have followed up with investigators from the Barrie Police human trafficking unit which indicated they are not aware of a tactic like the one described being used to lure victims into human trafficking.

When there is a suspicious incident involving a vehicle or person, police strongly recommend they are contacted immediately so there can be an appropriate response with the necessary resources.
