Barrie police say two of their cruisers were damaged as they attempted to arrest suspects in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation.

On Sunday afternoon, police say they were contacted by the owner of the SUV which was reported stolen earlier in the day to Peel Regional Police from a banquet hall in Mississauga.

The vehicle was located in a Peel Street parking lot and a 16-year-old boy was arrested, but the driver and another occupant fled on foot.

The teen was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was released from custody with a December court date.
