Testing underway on new blue-and-white licence plates as Queen’s Park reverts to old design…for now

Ford Government resolves issue with manufacturer at no cost to taxpayers

The Province says the problem with some recently introduced licence plates has been rectified.

Minister of Government and Consumer Services, Lisa Thompson, says testing is underway on a redesigned plate that should be in production within the next two weeks. Thompson adds the resolution with the manufacturer, 3M Canada, came at no cost to taxpayers. “3M Canada is providing material to the Province and testing is being completed by law enforcement and key stakeholders,” said Thompson.

The province will revert to the old style of plates (blue lettering on white background) until a steady supply of the revamped plates is available. The PC government was forced to shelve its new plates after it was revealed the white-on-blue design was unreadable in some night conditions.
