The Northern Appeal is a non-profit literary journal that showcases poetry, short stories, photography, and artwork from across Muskoka and Simcoe County.
Over the weekend, Homestead Artisan Bakery + Cafe hosted the launch party for issue 6. The event started with short readings from 3 fantastically talented poets: Bruce Meyer, Sofie Bedard, and Andrea Muray. Next up was HarpAcash with their pop-folk infused music. Masterful guitar and harmonies from Danny Boy were perfect matches to the unbelievable vocal range of lead singer HarpAcash, whose voice filled the intimate setting wall to wall.
Headlining the event with the launch of her debut EP "Careful Women", Rebekah Hawker was another vocal tour de force backed by yet another group of talented musicians. Very rarely are back to back performances filled with so much passion, emotion, and raw talent. Do yourself a favour and check out both of these incredibly talented artists and keep an eye out for any upcoming shows, you won't be disappointed.
If you have a passion for local artistic culture, you can pick up a copy of The Northern Appeal in Barrie at Bohemia, Forgather Floral Co., Extreme Imaging, Camphill Community, and The Maclaren Art Centre, in Orillia at Harold and Fern, in Creemore at Miller Island, and soon to be in Collingwood at the Maker's Outpost. You can also order it online from The Northern Appeal's website.
We can't wait for Issue 7!
