After causing a surge in chess popularity, The Queen's Gambit is getting another adaptation and this time it's in the form of an on-stage musical.
The musical will be based on the 1983 novel of the same name that follows Beth Harmon's journey to becoming one of the top chess players in the world. The most recent adaptation of the novel from Netflix quickly rocketed to the top of their most popular shows list, occupying the top spot for several weeks.
Level Forward will be heading the project after announcing they acquired the rights this week. "Told through a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon's journey and ultimate triumph,” said Level Forward CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz.
