A third outbreak has been declared within a unit at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie. This time, the Specialized Seniors Care Unit. Two patients have tested positive, according to RVH.
Previously, outbreaks were declared in the Integrated Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit and the Transitional Care Unit. The former saw 10 patients and 17 staff test positive, with five related patient deaths reported; the latter saw 6 patients and 7 staff infected, with one associated death.
In all three units, patients have been swab tested and are safely quarantining in their rooms, according to the hospital which adds everyone is being monitored for symptoms, and droplet/contact isolation protocols are in place.
The hospital currently has a “no visitors” restriction in place and will only permit visits on compassionate grounds.
