Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 35-year-old from Everett with careless driving after a northbound tractor-trailer plowed through the median and into the southbound lanes of Highway 400 in Barrie, south of Bayfield Street.

Police say the crash happened around 6:30 and involved 5 other vehicles.

Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The collision resulted in the closure of Highway 400 in both directions between Duckworth Street and Dunlop Street.

Two lanes of the highway in both directions have reopened, but police say the left lanes will remain closed for repairs to the guardrail.
