Unknown if BMC Parking Lot Is Free Game As Province Moves to Permit Tailgating

Details Expected In Provincial Budget Due Out Later This Week

As the province mulls over legalizing the practice of tailgating, it’s unknown if Barrie’s south end arena would fit the bill.

Ontario sports fans will soon be able to crack a cold one before the game, as the Ford Government is expected to announce in this weeks’d budget it will legalize tailgating; Any parking lot or venue within a reasonable distance from a major sports complex would be able to apply for a permit under the soon-to-be-amended rules. Those wanting a permit would have to go through the province, not the city.

The new regulations have yet to be released, so the definition of what a “major sports complex” has not been handed down by the government. Until then, there is no word from the City of Barrie if parking lots around the Barrie Molson Centre would allow for tailgating; details are expected after Finance Minister Vic Fedeli hands down the provincial budget later this week.
