A man who allegedly shot at a York Regional Police officer and then barricaded himself in a home for hours is facing a long list of charges including attempted murder, dangerous driving and numerous firearms offences.
Police say an officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Bayview and Major Mackenzie around 10:30 on Friday morning. A man allegedly shot at the officer, who then returned fire.
A suspect fled into a nearby residence. The standoff with heavily armed police lasted nearly 12 hours before a man was taken into custody.
The suspect is 34 years old and from Richmond Hill.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate.
