Town of Wasaga Beach, OPP, gearing up for influx of visitors

Expect a stepped-up police presence this weekend at Wasaga Beach.

A large-scale gathering of car enthusiasts is planned – an event that has not been sanctioned by the town.

“The OPP has consulted with town officials about this gathering, and they have taken the lead to ensure public safety,” Mayor Nina Bifolchi said.

Dozens of charges were laid at a similar event last year, some of them for breaching COVID protocols.

So you know, two parking lots at Beach Area 1 (Spruce Street and Playland lots) will be closed for the weekend. The Municipal Picnic Lot off Fifth Street will be open to residents with a parking pass, as will the Beach Area 4 lot at the end of 24th Street. All other Ontario Park lots will be open for pay and display parking and Ontario Parks pass holders.

See the map of municipal parking lots.

People who observe concerning behaviour during the weekend should contact OPP by calling 9-1-1 or the non-emergency number at 1-888-310-1122.
