Where there is smoke, there is a controlled burn in Essa on Sunday

This is part of a restoration project for an endangered species of songbird

Not to be alarmed if you see smoke over an area south of County Road 90 in Essa Township.

There is a controlled burn on about 27 acres of County of Simcoe forest at the end of the 9th Line on Sunday.

This should be completed by the end of the day.

The controlled burn is to support the County of Simcoe’s second phase of the Kirtland Warbler Habitat Restoration project. The Kirtland Warbler is an endangered songbird.

Next spring the County will plant 35,000 native trees as well as shrubs, herbs and wildflowers as part of this international restoration effort.
