Woman complains she was pursued by a man on Highway 12 pretending to be a police officer

Had a flashing red and blue light bar in the windshield

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating reports of a man in a van impersonating a police officer in Tay Township.

A woman contacted OPP Sunday afternoon about a black van that had been following her along Highway 12 westbound from Highway 400 just after 2 p.m.

After 15 minutes, she told police the driver of the van activated a blue and red flashing light bar and attempted to get her to stop. At one point, she said he nearly collided with her. The man eventually ended his pursuit and drove south on Newton Road.

The van is described as:

  • an older model black cargo van
  • sliding side doors
  • no rear windows
  • no front licence plate, just a plate holder
  • windshield cracked from the driver’s side to the middle
  • blue and red light bar in the lower windshield

OPP advises any driver who is suspicious of a police vehicle attempting to stop them to dial 911 to assist in verifying that it is a police vehicle.

Anyone with further information on this incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, opp.southern.georgian.bay@opp.ca or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
