Woman’s body pulled from car at the brink of Niagara Falls

Police are trying to figure out why the car entered the water

Police say a woman was pulled from a car on the brink of Niagara Falls, on the American side.

Stephen T Watson, a Buffalo News reporter, said in a tweet that New York State Parks Police confirmed the woman is dead.

Police say a car plunged into the upper part of the river around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday and became stuck in the rapids near the brink of the falls.

A rescuer was lowered from a Coast Guard helicopter down to the water. That person was able to pry open the passenger side of the car –only the roof of it was above water.

Police are investigating how the vehicle ended up in the water.
