Sadly, situation doesn’t have the outcome we’d want to see. The woman from the vehicle is dead, NYS Parks confirm. A police official said no movement was observed in the vehicle during the period of the rescue.— Stephen T Watson 💉💉💉 (@buffaloscribe) December 8, 2021
Police say a car plunged into the upper part of the river around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday and became stuck in the rapids near the brink of the falls.

A rescuer was lowered from a Coast Guard helicopter down to the water. That person was able to pry open the passenger side of the car –only the roof of it was above water.
Police are investigating how the vehicle ended up in the water.
