Woodstock insulation company fined $125,000 after Muskoka worker was run over by a truck

Court report says the victimwas installing tire chains when he was killed

A court has fined Great Northern Insulation(GNI) $125,000 after a worker from Huntsville was killed installing tire chains to a truck.

The Woodstock-based company entered a guilty plea following a Ministry of Labour investigation in which GNI was charged with failing to take reasonable precautions for the protection of a worker from the risk of being struck by a moving vehicle while installing tire chains.

On November 23, 2018, 24 year old Devin Gilpin of Huntsville was working out of GNI’s Gravenhurst location and was driving a truck with a colleague in Magnetawan.

According to court records, driving conditions convinced the workers to install tire chains because the roads were very slippery.

The pair were in the process of installing chains on the front driver side tire of the truck, when the vehicle, which was not properly immobilized, starting rolling and ran over top of Gilpin and killed him.
