County of Simcoe paramedics transported a child to hospital following a fire at a north Barrie home.

A fire department spokesperson says crews were called to the blaze on Hawthorne Crescent in the area of Ferndale Drive South shortly before 5:30 on Sunday afternoon, and when they arrived, flames were shooting through the roof.

The spokesperson added that everyone in the residence got out, though they were unable to provide a status on the child who was taken to the hospital.

It's believed the fire started on the second floor of the home in a ceiling fan in the washroom.

The investigation is ongoing.
