Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) will host a free Hot Summer Night event at Sunnidale Park (located at 265 Sunnidale Road) this Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Geared toward families with children, all are invited to join the fun. There will be hands-on activities, lifesaving fire tips, fire safety information, fire truck tours, and a fire hose shower to help cool everyone down.
"We try to sort of sneak in some of our fire safety messages into these really fun activities," said BFES Public Educator, Katie Foster. "So the kiddos can go out and do our combat challenge and learn about stop, drop and roll, or get low and go, where do we go if the smoke alarms sound, and then they always end with being able to practice spraying a target."
Event features include:
- Mini combat challenge obstacle course
- Story time with Sparky
- Barrie Recreation’s summer fun trailer
- Barrie Police Service and Simcoe County Paramedic Services education tent
- Painting a school bus with fire safety messages
- Nature play activities
- Fire safety games and prizes
Domino’s Pizza will also be on site selling slices for $2 each, with proceeds going to the BFES charity fund, which gives back to local community and charitable groups. The KOOL FM events team will be live on scene with music and a giveaway.
