News release - City of Barrie
The City of Barrie is reminding residents about changes to curbside collection of yard waste.
Effective May 1, 2024, there is no specific day for yard waste collection. Yard waste is collected on alternate weeks from garbage pickup through April to November. Residents are asked to place yard waste curbside Monday by 7 a.m. on their yard waste collection week. It will be collected before end of day Friday. Residents can check their collection week at barrie.ca/CollectionSchedule.
The yard waste schedule is now consistent from April through November, simpler to know when to have material at the curb and provides the City’s new waste collection contractor flexibility in managing the highly seasonal volumes of yard waste. The change helps avoid missed collection during times when substantial material is at the curb.
Residential yard waste can also be dropped off at the City of Barrie's landfill site at 272 Ferndale Drive North. There is no charge for the first 100kg of each load. The remainder of the weight over 100kg is $60/tonne.
With the support of our community, last year the City diverted nearly 8,000 tonnes of yard waste from the landfill through the yard waste collection program. This material is processed at the City’s landfill site and finished compost and mulch are available for purchase. Residents are reminded to bring a shovel and containers for loading their own compost or mulch and wear appropriate footwear.
