Everyone's favourite aardvark is finally retiring

Has it really been that long?
Arthur final season
When someone asks you what the longest-running television shows are, the first ones that pop into your head are likely The Simpsons, Law & Order, Doctor Who, or classic TV fans might even go with Gunsmoke. It might surprise you to know that PBS favourite Arthur, has been going strong for over 25 years, but it looks like this year will be his final appearance on the small screen.

When someone asks you what the longest-running shows on television are, the first ones that pop into your head are likely The Simpsons, Law & Order, Doctor Who, or classic TV fans might even go with Gunsmoke. It might surprise you to know that PBS favourite Arthur, has been going strong for over 25 years, but it looks like this year will be his final appearance on the small screen.

It's strange to think that someone pitched a kid's show about an anthropomorphic aardvark and not only did someone approve it, but 25 seasons and 253 episodes later, it would become the longest-running children's animated series and second longest-running animated series (behind The Simpsons) of all time.

Through the exploration of often deep and important family issues, iconic animated, and celebrity guest stars like Larry King, Fred Rogers, The Backstreet Boys, and even Matt Damon, Arthur is one of those shows you didn't realize had been on for so long and played such a big role in pop culture.

Arthur was renewed back in 2018 for four additional seasons and the last episode will air in the winter of 2022.

It's the end of an era and we almost didn't notice.
