Have The Best Family Day Weekend With These Activities

Free Paintballing, Bouncy Castles, Winter Festivals & More!

With no shortage of things to do this weekend, your only problem with be narrowing down your options. Barrie and the surrounding areas have all kinds of family fun happening this weekend in honour of Family day and many of them are free!

Check it all out below:

1. Family Day Winter Adventure

The City of Barrie will be hosting their 5th Annual Family Day Winter Adventure at the Barrie Community Sports Complex. The event will include interactive outdoor activities including skating, broomball, horse-drawn sleigh rides, challenge course, fat bike demos, trail walking and a bonfire.

You can drop by for free anytime between 10 am-2 pm to participate.

2. Drysdale’s

Drysdale’s is having a special event February 18th from 10 am-4 pm to help you celebrate family. The event will include horse-drawn wagon rides, svavenger hunts, face painting and more! Bring your own snowshoes or cross-country skis to enjoy 8 km of trails.

The event is $10/person, children 3 & under are free.

3. Barrie Bouncefest

Bring the kids to The Barrie Sports Dome on February 18th, for an energy-burning day of fun. Barrie Bouncefest will include inflatables and games that the kids will love.

The event is all about bouncing to your heart’s delight for a good cause. The proceeds will be donated to Starlight Children’s Foundation.

$10/child, 2 & under free, adults free.

4. Free Skating

As always, free skating will be available at all outdoor public rinks but there are a couple of indoor locations hosting scheduled free skates as well.

There will be a free family skate at Holly Recreation Centre February 18th from 1 pm-3 pm as well as at The Molson Centre from 10 am-12 pm.

5. Free Paintball

Get out and try something new this Family Day. Barrie Paintball is offering a day of free paintball February 18th, all you have to pay for is the paint! Entry, equipment and HPA will be free and paint is $120/case of 2000.

6. Get Crafty with “Crafternoon”

The Orillia Waterfront Centre is putting on an afternoon of free arts, crafts and hot chocolate. Drop by the Boater’s Lounge with your family between 1pm-3 pm to get crafty.

7. Simcoe County Museum

There will be lots to keep you and the family busy February 18th, at the Simcoe County Museum. Spend some time on the beautiful skating trail through the woods, snowshoeing through the trails and zipping down the perfect tobogganing hill.

Museum members and preschoolers are free, $8/adult, $6/youth & seniors, $5/child. Admission includes access to the museum, the perfect place to warm up. Bring your own skates and toboggans, snowshoes will be available for free.

8. Free Fishing

There are only 4 times a year you can fish in Ontario without a license and this weekend is one of them. Enjoy fishing all weekend long without having to go get a permit to do so.

9. Jack’s Urban Jungle

This is a great place to spend the day with family because there’s fun to be had by everyone (ages 8+). Jack’s Urban Jungle with be open 12 pm-9 pm on Family Day. During your visit you can choose from activities such as zorbing, trampolining, zip-lining, slack-lining, aerial course, leap of faith, obstacle course, cargo net wall and more!

Passes start at just $15/hour. All guests who purchase an all day pass will receive a free slice of pizza while supplies last. In addition, each guest will be given a ballot to enter a draw for a family pack of 4 all day passes.

10. Friday Harbour

If you loved Barrie Winterfest, you’ll love the Family Day celebration Friday Harbour will be hosting. February 16th-18th, there will be a variety of fun activities taking place including horse-drawn wagon rides, crafts, scavenger hunts, skating, snowshoe tours and snow baseball.

There will also be exciting demonstrations including magicians, ice sculptors and wood carvers. Warm up by the bonfire and grab a hot chocolate or steaming bowl of chili at the Beach Club window.

If you’re planning on visiting Saturday night, make sure to hang around until 7 pm for an exciting fireworks show.

11. Snowman Mania

Wasaga Beach’s 14th Annual “Snowman Mania” is taking place this weekend, February 15th-18th. What started as a snow building competition years ago, is now a full-blown winter festival with activities for the whole family. This year’s festival will feature circus performers, balloon artists, face painting, inflatables, live music, shinny and more!

You can pick up a $2 Snowman Mania button to access all of the events at one of the following locations: Town Hall, Wasaga Beach FoodLand, Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce, Wasaga Beach RecPlex & YMCA & the Wasaga Beach Public Library and Beach Builders Home Hardware.

12. Hot Chocolate Trail

The Downtown Hot Chocolate Trail will be running for just two more weekends until the end of the month. There are 15 participating locations serving a total of 20 unique versions of hot chocolate.

Every purchase of hot chocolate at any of the participating locations will include the chance to win a prize voucher! Participants will receive a ballot with each purchase to be entered in a draw that will take place after the last weekend of February.

13. Get Your Workout On

Although it may not top your list of “fun” activities for Family Day weekend, it’s worth noting that Planet Fitness will be opening there doors on February 18th for anyone over the age of 13 to enjoy a free workout.

It might be a good time to test out the gym before getting a membership, or just a good place to get your body moving…without having to brave the cold. Grab a friend or family member and enjoy your workout with a buddy!
