Man riding scooter injured in collision with vehicle in Barrie

Barrie Police say a man in his early 70s was injured when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing on a green traffic light on Yonge Street just south of Big Bay Point Road.

The collision happened shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

"From our investigation that was conducted by members of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit, we've been able to determine that the scooter was lawfully crossing the roadway when a motor vehicle that was travelling northbound proceeded before the light turned," said Peter Leon, Barrie Police communications coordinator.

The man who was struck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
