Three snowmobilers dead in two separate incidents in the Midland-area

Tragic start to Snowmobile Safety Week

Ontario Provincial Police say Snowmobile Safety Week is off to a tragic start.

Police confirm a man died in hospital after being pulled from the water of Georgian Bay in the area of Midland Point on Saturday afternoon.

First responders were called to the area about a man who had entered the water on a snowmobile. Penetanguishene firefighters were able to pull him from the water but he was later pronounced dead.

His name has not been released.

Meanwhile, an OPP search and rescue team effort ended late Monday morning with the discovery of two bodies, believed to be snowmobilers who disappeared in the Sturgeon Bay area.

Police say they responded shortly after six o’clock Sunday evening after getting calls from people who heard cries for help.
