We've lost a good one.
No.
A great one.
Central Ontario Broadcasting (Rock 95, 107.5 Kool FM, Barrie 360, Flying Pigs Marketing) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of longtime Rock 95 announcer Randy Richards, who this week lost his battle with cancer.
He was a great announcer, but more than that, a great friend and co-worker.
- I loved this man with all my heart. One of my favourite people to work with. He brought so much laughter in the halls and made me look forward to work every day. He was a true radio great, and a greater human. Thank you so much for our 20 years of friendship that I will cherish forever. I'll miss you. - Craig Ross, Rock 95 Program Director & Morning Crew host
- I’ve been trying to figure out the words to express what I’m feeling right now. I can’t. So I’ll just leave the three words that make me think of Randy the absolute most. I’d hear this in the hallway EVERY day. With the exactly same level of enthusiasm. “What’s shakin’ baby?” - Cat Divaris, Rock 95 Morning Crew alumnus
Randy was a beloved figure both on and off the air, known for his dedication to radio, and his involvement in the Barrie community, particularly as a coach for female soccer athletes.
Over the years, Randy became a trusted voice on Rock 95, known for his hard work, sense of humour, and connection with listeners.
- Today the world lost a legend, rest easy Randy you were the voice of my childhood and you touched so many lives, see you later in the spirit in the sky. - Robb Sheardown, Facebook
- Randy was truly a friend during my time in Practically Hip. I’ll miss him, and Barrie has a huge hole in it now. - Pat Riel Music
Rock 95 and Randy’s loving family expressed their sorrow, thanking listeners for their support and the medical teams who cared for Richards in his final days. "Thank you for many years of allowing him to fill your airwaves," the station said. "He loved being part of your day."
Randy Richards will be remembered as a cherished part of the Rock 95 family and the Barrie community.
He will be greatly missed.
