Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) will be returning to 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week visiting hours (with some exceptions), on Monday, September 9.
“This is a very meaningful change for our patients and their families,” says Rachel Kean, RVH Vice President, Quality, Risk and Patient Experience and Regional Chief Privacy Officer. “Over the past two years, we have been gradually easing restrictions on visiting hours. Knowing how comforting it can be for patients to have a loved one with them during their RVH stay, we are pleased that we can now return safely to a 24-hour visiting policy.”
The new policy allows:
- Two visitors per patients between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
- One visitor (must be over the age of 16) per patient between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- At the discretion of the care team, palliative patients have no limitations on visiting hours or number of visitors
With the following exceptions:
- Child and Youth Mental Health maintains visiting hours of 4 – 8 p.m.
- Adult Mental Health maintains visiting hours of Monday to Friday 4 – 8 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU) 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. (see above for rules regarding palliative patients)
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (parents/caregivers who are arm banded may stay 24 hours a day)
- Paediatrics 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (one caregiver may sleep overnight)
In all cases, visitors may be asked by the care team to leave at any time.
Please note, if you are visiting a patient between 9 p.m. – 8 a.m., please enter and exit through the Atrium entrance.
